Leslie Ordeman, a career member of the Foreign Service, assumed his responsibilities as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy to Oman in August 2023. Prior to coming to Oman, he served in several capacities at the U.S. Embassy to Libya (Libya External Office (LEO), Tunis), including as Chargé d’Affaires from September 2022, Deputy Chief of Mission from February 2021, and Political/Economic Chief from August 2019.
Before serving at the U.S. Embassy to Libya, he worked at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations (2015-2019), where he led the team responsible for issues related to the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America at the United Nations Security Council. He has previously worked as the spokesperson for the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem (2012-2015), adviser to the State Department Spokesperson (2011), and Partnerships Officer in the office responsible for NATO Policy Planning (EUR/RPM, 2009-2011). He has also had assignments in Beirut (2007-2009), Paris (2004-2006), and Iraq (2003-2004).
Mr. Ordeman holds a Masters of International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University. Mr. Ordeman is the recipient of numerous State Department awards including Meritorious and Superior Honor Awards for his efforts to advance U.S. interests. Mr. Ordeman was the 2021 recipient of the State Department’s Robert C. Frasure Memorial Award, which is given to the Department employee who most exemplifies the late Ambassador’s commitment to peace and the alleviation of human suffering caused by war or civil injustice.
